Fruit Trees in West Texas

Strengthening Our Fruit Trees Against the West Texas Wind

Spring is here and we've been busy with the wind storms and getting ready for the new season!! We've gotten a few fruit trees for our little homestead! We've decided to use t-posts to give them extra security with all the wind!!

Our first batch of chicks this spring

New Chicks Have Hatched – Meet the Latest Additions!

Our hens are laying well again!! We've started incubation again and our first batch of the new year just hatched on the 28th! As some of you know, we also sold our Speckled Sussex. We posted a poll on Facebook and Instagram and the consensus was to add Rhode Island Reds to our flock! If you aren't yet, please be sure to follow us on Social Media!

We also had to replace our chicken pen shade cloths. We're trying a new strategy with a cable through the grommets instead of bungees or zip ties to try and distribute the force of the wind. Well be posting a video on social media and are working on videos for the website so make sure you're signed up for our newsletter!

Protecting Our Ewes:

A New Guardian Joins the Flock

Our ewes are healthy and happy, but we have put a pause on buying more ewes. As many of you know, our biggest battle is predators. To help combat this, we've decided to add a Great Pyrenees to join the flock! We'll be getting her at the beginning of April but will probably not lamb again until fall or next spring to give her time to grow so she can take care of them.

Underground dog house

A Cool, Underground Dog House for Our Hardworking Catahoulas

We also did a little side project and built a new dog house! Our three Catahoulas help patrol, and they needed something more, so we buried their new house so they can benefit from warmth in the winter and a cool, dark spot in the hot summer!

We're so grateful to all of you for following on our journey. We're working hard to provide you with regular content with all of our mistakes and triumphs! Thanks for being a part of it as we work hard on our little patch of sand to be stewards of the animals the Lord has blessed us to watch over.

“The Lord is good to all, and His mercy is over all that He has made.” — Psalm 145:9
